Estoril is the perfect place for travelers who want to enjoy the pleasure of a town with a real coastal feel to it, but want some great night life and a bit of culture too. It is a bubbly and cosmopolitan resort town that has everything a holiday maker could possibly ask for.
Its beaches are well known for their fine sand and calm waters, making them suitable for beaches goers of all descriptions, and not too far down the coast lies waters perfect for lovers of surfing or water-sports. For those who would prefer to stay on dry land, there are great restaurants and hotels to suit all styles, as well as a casino and a gold course. Remarkably, a motor-racing circuit, the Estoril Circuit, is part of the attraction to this town and was once used for Formula One racing. It hosts, amongst other things, international motorcycling events and attracts motor-racing lovers from all over the world.

Numerous forts are dotted along Estoril’s coastline, which were once used to protect Lisbon from invaders entering its boundaries from this part of the country. Most of these handsome buildings stand on cliff faces with glistening blue ocean as their backdrop and combine with the other treasures of Estoril to create a delightful place to spend a holiday. Because of this, over the years many famous and royal European’s have been drawn to and found solace in Estoril’s shores. Lord Byron described it as one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen and apparently even wrote some of his works there.
